How is it that if God is so far “out” we can draw near to Him? Sounds like “instantaneous nonlocality”. God, being God, can be near and far all at the same time. In this same way, King David in the psalms was able to say, “Where can I go from your presence”?, If I go to the high mountains, you are there, If I should go to the depth of the ocean, you are there if I should make my bed in hell, God You are there. Where can I go from Your presence? This is the good news you can’t get away from God! This is indeed “spooky action at a distance” and it is one way God loves us.
Happy Thanksgiving!
27 11 2008I am in Florence, Alabama about to sit down with my family and parttake of the annual feast of feathers. It is an wonderful time of being with family and it is most favorite time of year.
Going back to thinking about what I am thinking about, I was reading the book The Wild Goose Chase by Mark Batterson, and was introduced to the idea of “instantaneous nonlocality”. A technical term having to do with subatomic particles that are faster then the speed of light and defy space and time. This is a fascinating idea since it challenges assumptions that most of us have held to like 186,000 miles per second was the universe’s speed limit. According to some research it is not and offers perspective in thinking about God. Image, He knows what we are thinking about.

Thinking about what your Thinking about
27 11 2008Many times we take things for granted. It is funny I happen to be writing on this topic on Thanksgiving eve. Taking things for granted often reflects the way most of us live the way most of us think. Let me remind you that “thinking” is no passive activity. Thinking is a verb and we are always thinking. Our brain chemistry is in constant motion (we can’t really know whats going on until we see that brain motion in action in our behavior. Most of us take thinking for granted and therefore never really think about what we are thinking about. And for most of us, if we think about what we are thinking about, usually its just in passing. Thinking about what we think about is thought worthy. Wondering of what one is thinking about however is kind of “spooky at a distance.”

How Close Can You Get?
6 12 2008How close can you get? Answer is as close as you want. Getting close to God however is not just for the wanting. Wanting to be near to God is not like wanting your favorit desert after dinner or like wanting your dream car or your dream house. Wanting God has to do with wanting Him more then you want anything else you could think of or imagin. “Only imagin” (song from Mercy Me) Wanting God has to do with not wanting. This is a paradox of ideas and a parady of words. God is in the not wanting anything els. Jesus said to Peter, “Peter do you love me more then these?” Jesus posed the question three times. By the third time, Peter was getting annoyed and responded to Jesus, “Lord you know every thing, you know I love you more.
God wants to be close to us. The scripture says, “draw near to God and He will draw near to you”. It’s interesting in this context God wants us to make the first move. That’s because He wants us to be sure we know what we want. Do we really want Him? Or is He going to compete with another or our affections? The question is, “How Close Can You Get?
